On the days of Chol HaMoed Sukkot, a grand children’s celebration of Simchas Beis HaShoeivah – the traditional celebration of the Joy of Water Drawing – took place at the Central “Golden Rose” Synagogue and in the main festive sukkah built in the synagogue’s courtyard. Children of various ages, together with their parents, took part in it.
A large and varied program was prepared for the participants, combining the spiritual meaning of the holiday of Sukkot with vibrant entertainment. The children together recited the famous 12 Pesukim that every Jewish child should know, watched a video with an address from the leader of our generation, the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, and then a special cartoon dedicated to the holiday of Sukkot was shown.
Then the host of the celebration, Yeshiva Ktana graduate Yosef Yitzchak Zhilin, invited all the children into the sukkah, where a special treat awaited them – at two stations, students of the “Beit LeBanim” boys’ boarding school and pupils of the Yeshiva Ktana named after Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson offered them popcorn and sweet cotton candy, the favorite delicacies of Jewish children, with the appropriate blessings.
One of the brightest parts of the program was the lively dancing, which took place separately for boys and girls in different halls of the Central Synagogue. The joy of Sukkot united children of various ages, and their parents were able to share with them the special atmosphere of Simchas Beis HaShoeivah.
The celebration concluded with a grand raffle for the most active participants. Its winners received wonderful gifts – toys and other prizes, which became yet another bright and joyful moment of this great children’s event.
“It was very important to us that children of various ages – from preschoolers to high schoolers – be able to take part in Simchas Beis HaShoeivah, that everything be truly fun, interesting, and, of course, kosher,” noted the organizer of the celebration, Rabbi David Vaskovsky. “Such events become an important and joyful experience for the children, and parents share with them the special joy that fills the days of Sukkot. We are happy that this beautiful tradition unites children and adults of the united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
