On the eve of Sukkos, our website is pleased to present to its readers a translation of a letter from the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, written on the eve of Sukkos 5737.
Reflecting on the second half of the month of Tishrei, the Rebbe speaks about the transition from teshuvah and the spiritual work of the first days of the month to the joy of Sukkos – “the time of our rejoicing.” At the same time, one important theme unites both parts of the month – Jewish unity, which finds its expression both in the mitzvah of the sukkah and in the “four species” of plants.
In the letter, the Rebbe also draws attention to the practical meaning of this idea: love for a fellow Jew, care for their spiritual and material needs, and the ability to see in every person a part of a single whole.
