Accessibility Week at the Jewish Lyceum

Events within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Accessibility Week took place at the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, the leading educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community. These events were aimed at fostering a culture of respectful communication, mutual understanding, and attentive care for every individual.

An important part of the program was the training session “6 Rules of Accessibility,” conducted for the students by the lyceum’s psychologist, Svitlana Tsarytsyna. During the session, the students discussed equality of opportunity, support, respect for the dignity of every person, and how to create a space where everyone feels accepted and heard.

Special attention was paid to six basic principles of accessible communication. The students learned about the importance of the principle of “person-first language,” the need to use correct and neutral terminology, to avoid stereotypes, unfounded generalizations and exaggerations, to treat the choice of words and forms of communication with respect, and to show attentiveness to the feelings and dignity of others.

During the training, the students discussed real-life examples from everyday situations, reflected on how words can affect those around them, and concluded that accessibility begins with simple but important things: the ability to understand another person, to show respect, support, and a readiness to accept people as they are.

“Fostering a respectful attitude toward others, the ability to hear and understand other people is one of the most important tasks of modern education,” said Svitlana Romenska, Deputy Director of the Lyceum. “Such sessions help children not only to acquire new knowledge but also to learn to build relationships based on mutual respect, responsibility, and goodwill. This is an important part of our lyceum’s educational approach, thanks to the constant support and attention to educational initiatives from the Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
