A modern automated external defibrillator (UKR-AED) recently installed at the Central “Golden Rose” Synagogue—made possible through Shmuel Katsev and the family of Mark (Mordechai) Gorodetsky—has become one of the key elements of a special charitable first aid training session held for staff of the Jewish Community of Dnipro and synagogue congregants. The training continued the initiative of Mark Gorodetsky’s family, aimed at preserving his memory through good deeds that can help save lives.
The main goal of the training was to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to act correctly in situations where a person requires immediate assistance before the arrival of medical professionals. The core of the training was an introduction to the principles of using an automated external defibrillator—equipment that is now permanently located at the Central “Golden Rose” Synagogue and can be used in critical situations.
The training was conducted by the professional team of Respawn School, which brings together experienced instructors with professional training and appropriate certification. The instructors hold qualifications from the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy and Ternopil Medical University, as well as from international organizations NAEMT and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC). Since the beginning of 2022, Respawn School specialists have trained over 25,000 people.
The particular significance of this training lies in the fact that modern emergency equipment becomes a truly effective life-saving tool when there are people nearby who are familiar with its principles of use and know how to act in a critical situation. Therefore, the installation of the defibrillator at the “Golden Rose” Synagogue and the training of the Jewish Community of Dnipro staff and congregants logically complement each other, transforming a charitable gift into a comprehensive system of care for safety and human life.
