At the Beit Zindlicht Children’s Educational Center, the leading preschool of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, an educational meeting was held between children and employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU). This meeting continued a series of events during which children learn about the professions of those who daily ensure public safety. After meetings with employees of the National Police of Ukraine and the Jewish Medical Center (JMC), the children had the opportunity to learn more about the work of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and become familiar with one of the most courageous and responsible professions – that of a firefighter-rescuer.
During the meeting, SESU employees told the children about their service, explained the importance of observing fire safety regulations, and showed them a modern fire truck. The children eagerly explored the vehicle’s numerous compartments, familiarizing themselves with specialized equipment, fire hoses, nozzles, breathing apparatus, and other devices that help rescuers fight fires and come to the aid of others. They also received colorful educational materials, which helped them better remember the basic safety rules.
The most exciting part of the meeting was the hands-on activities. Under the guidance of firefighters, the children took turns holding a real fire nozzle and directing a powerful stream of water, feeling like members of a real rescue team. Many tried on children’s firefighter helmets and equipment, carefully examined the specialized equipment, asked numerous questions, and participated with genuine enthusiasm in all the tasks offered. This firsthand introduction to the profession transformed an important safety lesson into an exciting adventure that gave the children a vivid experience and will remain in their memories for a long time.
“It’s crucial that children understand from an early age that the employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are ready to help at any moment, protecting human lives,” noted kindergarten teacher Naomi Chaya Yavorska. “Meetings like these not only help children learn more about different professions but also instill respect for the people who serve society every day. We strive to show our students that Beit Zindlicht is an important part of the large and close-knit Jewish community of Dnipro, which lives in modern Ukrainian society, where people of all professions are always ready to support each other and help each other. It is this sense of security, mutual responsibility, and unity that we consider one of the most important values in education, and for this, we wholeheartedly thank the united and cohesive Jewish community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
