The Jewish Community of Dnipro offers you the prayer schedule and invites you to the holiday of Yom Kippur.
It is customary to spend most of the day of Yom Kippur in the synagogue. However, it is most important to be present at the key prayers, and it is important that all family members come, so that all the Jews of the city may turn to the Almighty with a plea for a peaceful, prosperous year for all, and for health, happiness, and joy for each person.
Yom Kippur is a day when we are like angels. We do not eat or drink, even if Yom Kippur falls on Shabbos. On Yom Kippur, the following are also forbidden: all types of washing (washing the face, bathing), the use of perfume and cosmetics (including soap, toothpaste, etc.), wearing leather footwear, and marital relations. The Torah tells us about this: “So that you may afflict your souls…”
Married men wear a white kittel for prayer, which on this day symbolizes purification.
The fast begins on the eve, September 20, at sunset. Before that, one eats well and drinks sufficiently. For one who does this, it is accounted as though they fasted for two days. Also, before sunset, women light the festive candles.
The “Kol Nidrei” prayer (All Vows) opens Yom Kippur on the evening of September 20 at 7:00 PM.
The “Yizkor” prayer, very important for those whose one or both parents have departed from the material world, on September 21 at 12:00 PM. Afterwards, individual memorial prayers will be recited.
The “Neilah” prayer, the concluding prayer of Yom Kippur, on September 21 at 6:20 PM.
Then comes the climax of the Day of Atonement – THE SHOFAR BLOWING!
The verdict rendered is sealed. In the palace of the Almighty, the gates are closing. But we do not remain outside, beyond the gates. On the contrary, we are inside, behind the gates, alone with the Almighty. We are confident in a good verdict, that the year will be happy and sweet.
And the next holiday awaits us – Sukkos!
