The official resource of the Library described the event as follows: “In the reading room there was a presentation of Marina Grimich’s book “Umerovi: The History of the Motherland in the Cretan Tatar National Revolution of the XX-XXI Centuries”. One of the heroes of the book – the Ukrainian Cretan Tatar politician, member of the Mejlis of the Cretan Tatar people Ilmi Umerov – made speeches together with Mr. Marina.
Marina Grimich – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Professor, Director of the publishing house “Dulibi”. She is the author of over 200 scientific works, popular science articles and novels of various genres. Her books enrapture with their historical truthfulness and sophisticated Ukrainian language. Three times she became a laureate of the All-Ukrainian literary contest “Coronation of the Word”, and was awarded the first prize. Her books have been translated into French, English, Polish, Czech and Arabic.
Author Marina Grimich told us how the idea of writing such a book came about, about her work on it, about her conversations with Ilmi Umerov and other members of this family.
The book “Umerovi: The History of the Motherland in the Cretan Tatar National Revolution of the Twentieth-Twentieth Century” was a literary attempt to visualize the historical subjects of the struggle of the Cretan Tatars for the right to live and work in their own motherland through the participation of several generations of the famous and shananovich Umerovi family. At the center of attention are two of their representatives – the Ukrainian Crimean Tatar politician Ilmi Umerovi and his brother Bekir Umerov, the founder and organizer of the protest actions of the Crimean Tatars “Moscow-1987”. The book contains little known facts: about the way and style of life of the Crimean Tatars in deportation; about distinctive organizational forms at the early stages of the national movement, about ambiguous situations and inverted details of the action “Moscow-1987″; about the customary-legal forms of resolving land and housing issues in Crimea after the return of the Crimean Tatars; about the difficult and happy behind-the-scenes situation of the Crimean politics in the 1990s and 2000s and about the way Crimea was practically annexed”.
