The website of the Jewish Community of Dnipro congratulates all its readers on the main national holiday of our country – Ukraine’s Independence Day!
On this day in 1991, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (UkrSSR) adopted a document called the “Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine,” which stated:
ACT OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF UKRAINE
On the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine
Proceeding from the mortal danger that hung over Ukraine in connection with the state coup in the USSR on August 19, 1991,
- continuing the thousand-year tradition of state-building in Ukraine,
- proceeding from the right to self-determination, provided for by the UN Charter and other international legal documents,
- implementing the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic solemnly proclaims
the independence of Ukraine and the creation of an independent Ukrainian state – UKRAINE.
The territory of Ukraine is indivisible and inviolable.
From now on, only the Constitution and laws of Ukraine are in effect on the territory of Ukraine.
This Act takes effect from the moment of its approval.

Together with all ethno-confessional groups, the Jews of Ukraine welcomed their country’s attainment of state independence and are actively participating in the building of a free, democratic, and prosperous Ukraine.
On this day, we all wish the Ukrainian state – peace, well-being, unity and cohesion, victory in the fight against its enemies, the strengthening of Ukrainian statehood, the full restoration of territorial integrity, and prosperity in the economic, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual spheres!
The Jewish Community of Dnipro, together with the entire Jewish people living both in Ukraine and in other countries around the world, wholeheartedly congratulates the Ukrainian State on its birthday!
May the Almighty protect Ukraine!
May He grant our State peace, prosperity, and well-being!
