Hillel JCC together with Moishe House Dnipro organized a warm and atmospheric picnic in honor of Lag B’Omer – a holiday that traditionally symbolizes unity, friendship, the joy of spending time together, and outdoor recreation. That is why the picnic format was the ideal way to spend this day together and feel the true atmosphere of summer approaching.
About 50 students gathered outdoors not only to relax but also to learn more about the traditions and meanings of the holiday. The central part of the program was a themed quest dedicated to Lag B’Omer. While going through the stations, teams learned about the history of the holiday, its symbols, and the features of its celebration in different Jewish communities. Participants discovered interesting facts about the origin of Lag B’Omer, the tradition of bonfires, the connection of the holiday to nature, unity, and mutual support. The educational component was organically combined with sports challenges, creative tasks, and fun activities, making the quest not only informative but also truly exciting.
After the quest, everyone could choose their preferred format of leisure. Sports areas, creative workshops, and a music station with outdoor songs were available for the guests. Some participants actively engaged in games and physical activities, while others relaxed in the company of friends, enjoying the warm atmosphere of the evening. A special part of the picnic was the joint barbecue preparation, which further united all those present and created the atmosphere of a real summer camp.
Throughout the event, a very lively and sincere atmosphere prevailed – lots of laughter, conversations, new acquaintances, and moments to remember. For many participants, this gathering became an opportunity not only to spend time enjoyably but also to feel part of a large, friendly community.
The event was a vibrant opening to the summer meeting season of Hillel JCC. This year, Lag B’Omer gave participants many warm emotions, new memories, and once again reminded us how valuable moments spent together are.
“We thank everyone who shared this atmosphere with us!” says Alona Kolpina, Director of Hillel. “This project was made possible, in part, thanks to the support of the united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, which consistently develops a culture of responsibility, mutual support, and care for one’s neighbor.”
