Our website is pleased to report an important and moving event that took place in the Portuguese city of Cascais with the support of the Dnipro Jewish Community. A native of our city, Hlib Barsky, made a responsible decision and entered the Covenant of Avraham.
Hlib was born and raised in Dnipro, where he developed as a person, received his education, and then continued his studies in Kyiv. His family is closely connected to the Jewish life of the city: Hlib’s grandfather was among the founders of the board of trustees of the Jewish community of what was then Dnipropetrovsk, and this connection became an important part of his personal history.
His life’s path led him to Portugal, where, finding himself in a new environment, he rediscovered the depth of Jewish tradition. Meeting the rabbi of Cascais, Eli Rosenfeld, proved fateful: as a result of spiritual conversations and inner reflection, Hlib decided to fulfill the mitzvah of bris milah.
Particular respect is due to the mohel from Nice, Avi Nidam, who, with sincere selflessness, took upon himself all the expenses associated with the ceremony and personally arrived in Cascais to perform it. This act became a vivid example of the care and unity of the Jewish people.
During the ceremony, Hlib was surrounded by close friends and community representatives. The honored role of sandak was performed by a long-time friend of the Dnipro Jewish Community, Evgeniy Khatyanov.
This event became not only a personal spiritual step but also a testament to the living connection between generations and the unity of the Jewish people. Hlib Barsky received the Jewish name Yaakov.
Our website joins in all the congratulations and sincerely wishes Yaakov Barsky good health, spiritual growth, and to go from strength to strength — to Torah, Chuppah, and good deeds.
Mazl Tov!
