JBBBS Kosher Cook-Off: When Cooking Turns into an Adventure!

The JBBBS (Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters) project of the Dnipro Jewish Community is a unique initiative that brings together children, teenagers, and mentors, helping each of them experience the support, friendship, and warmth of a true Jewish family. During the last meeting, the program participants discovered that cooking is not just about preparing food, but a whole adventure where teamwork, ingenuity, and a good mood are essential.

This time, JBBBS turned into a real kosher cook-off! It all started with a quiz where teams answered questions about kashrut, Jewish holidays, and traditional dishes. For correct answers, participants earned their own “currency” – bibas – which could be used in a special “store” to buy ingredients. But the surprises were just beginning – after the shopping, a menu lottery awaited everyone, completely changing the teams’ plans. Not everything they bought was needed for cooking, so a true improvisation show began!

The teams demonstrated maximum inventiveness: they exchanged ingredients, took out “loans” from the bank, and sometimes even cooked with real challenges – standing on one leg, in silence, or without the necessary utensils. “We saw how the children supported each other, laughed, and looked for solutions together – it’s in such moments that true team unity is born,” said the project manager, Tetyana Kaplunska.

When the tasting time came, it became clear that all the efforts were not in vain – the dishes turned out to be surprisingly delicious, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and pride in the shared achievement. The team of the youngest participants drew special attention, enthusiastically preparing colorful vegetable and fruit treats for everyone.

“We always strive to ensure that every JBBBS meeting brings children not only knowledge but also warm emotions,” notes Tetyana Kaplunska. “Such events teach interaction, trust, and the joy of shared endeavors.

We sincerely thank the Jewish communities of Dnipro and Greater Boston, as well as Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, for their constant support. The JBBBS program is part of the broader Kehila Project initiative and helps children grow up in an environment of love, care, and genuine values. And ahead – there are many more interesting meetings, events, and discoveries! Join the big JBBBS family, discover the world together with us. Details and registration: 068-480-30-52 (Natalia).”
