Laser Tag, a Quest, and Porridge by the Fire: JBBBS Has Already Started Celebrating Lag BaOmer

This past Sunday, the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS) program of the Dnipro Jewish Community gathered all its participants for a vibrant, energetic, and heartwarming celebration of Lag BaOmer. This time, not only the children came — they were joined by their parents, younger siblings, and even toddlers, making the event feel truly like a big family gathering.

The kids enjoyed a series of outdoor activities. The highlight of the day was an epic laser tag game on a large open field — a true battle filled with energy, laughter, and the spirit of teamwork and competition. It was a perfect opportunity to show leadership, teamwork, and determination.

Next, everyone took part in a themed quest about the history and traditions of Lag BaOmer, prepared by the JBBBS volunteers. It was both fun and educational — a beautiful dive into Jewish heritage and meaning.

The active part of the celebration ended with a big group dance — Adama Yerushalayim, where everyone, kids and adults alike, joined in a joyful, unifying moment.

And of course, no celebration is complete without delicious food. Everyone enjoyed kosher treats lovingly prepared by the project team and the parents — fragrant porridge cooked over the fire, juicy skewers, fresh vegetables, and more.

“It was a day full of genuine emotions, laughter, and warmth. Moments like these make our shared life brighter, richer, and more meaningful. We are deeply grateful to the Jewish community of Dnipro and Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki for their continuous support, as well as to our dear partners from the Boston Jewish community, who help make all this possible,” shared Tetyana Kaplunska, head of the JBBBS program.

We’d like to remind everyone that JBBBS is part of the larger ‘Kehillah Project’ and is always open to new members and new friendships. To join the program, feel free to call 068-480-30-52 (Natalia).
