Lev Kandybur, a 6th-grade student at the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, the leading educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community, received a 3rd degree diploma at the international educational and scientific conference-competition for young students “UNIVERSE-2026,” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth of Leonid Kadenyuk, the first astronaut of independent Ukraine. For the competition, the lyceum student presented his own project – a computer game titled “Reach Mars,” which he successfully defended during a public presentation.
The young lyceum student’s project focused on developing a space-themed computer game where the player is tasked with completing a mission to reach Mars. During his defense, Lev Kandybur demonstrated his ability to clearly present his project’s concept, explain the principles of the game’s operation, and confidently answer questions from the jury members, particularly regarding possible level complexities and the future development of the project. For a 6th grader, this was his first experience participating in a scientific-educational competition, and it immediately earned him a prize-winning place.
A significant role in preparing the project was played by the student’s mentors – Olha Borysenko, computer science teacher at the Jewish Lyceum, and Olha Shybka, scientific supervisor at the municipal extracurricular institution “Start UM” Center for the Development of Children and Youth of the Dnipro City Council. Their professional guidance, attention, and pedagogical support helped the young developer represent his work with distinction at the international conference-competition.
“The 3rd degree diploma is an important debut for Lev Kandybur and further confirmation that students of the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144 are confidently making their mark in scientific and educational projects related to modern technologies and creative developments,” noted Svitlana Romenska, Deputy Director of the Lyceum. “We express our sincere gratitude to computer science teacher Olha Borysenko and scientific supervisor Olha Shybka for their professional preparation of the participant. And for the ongoing support of educational initiatives, thanks to which our lyceum students have the opportunity to develop their abilities and achieve meaningful results, we wholeheartedly thank the Dnipro Jewish Community and Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
