The second episode of the new educational project by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki, “Talmud in 8 Minutes,” has been released on the “Menorah” channel. The format continues to demonstrate that the Talmud is not an ancient abstraction but a key to understanding everyday reality. Short, clear, and relevant lessons reveal how the sages interpreted life situations that people still encounter today.
In the second episode, Rabbi Shmuel addresses a topic known in Jewish legal tradition as “damage by sight” (hezek re’iyah). It deals with the power of the human gaze and the influence it can have on another person – whether intentional or inadvertent. Referring to Tractate Bava Batra, the Rabbi explains: The Talmud considers even such seemingly subtle and invisible aspects of human relationships as the right to personal space, respect for one’s neighbor, and boundaries between people. How we look at another can bring joy and support or cause discomfort and harm. Therefore, Jewish wisdom teaches mindfulness, delicacy, and responsibility in every gesture.
The lesson shows that the Talmud not only regulates complex legal matters but also helps resolve everyday domestic and financial conflicts. How should expenses be divided fairly? How can disputes between neighbors be avoided? How should one act honestly and correctly? Every example provided by the sages serves as a guide, allowing one to see a situation clearly and act with justice and respect.
The “Talmud in 8 Minutes” project reaffirms its core idea: daily, even brief, study of the Torah and Talmud brings light, clarity, and aids in making wise decisions. Join the viewing and discover the depth of practical Jewish wisdom.
