“Sefirat HaOmer” at the Jewish Lyceum

At the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, special lessons were held where primary school students learned about the meaning and symbolism of the period between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot, known as “Sefirat HaOmer.”

To make the lesson visual and engaging, Jewish traditions teacher Yehudis Futerfas used the school staircase. The first step, marked with matzah, represented the first day of the Omer count. Each step symbolized a new day of spiritual growth. The thirty-third step, marked with a bonfire, introduced the students to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and the traditions of Lag BaOmer.

At the fiftieth step, the children found a Torah Scroll — the symbol of Shavuot, which falls on the 50th day after Passover. Through this journey, the students understood that receiving the Torah is a process that requires preparation and inner growth — just as the Jewish people experienced after the Exodus.

At the end of the activity, each student received a special calendar to track the Omer count with stickers day by day.

The event was held with the support of the Jewish Community of Dnipro.
