In the synagogues of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe—marked in Ukraine as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939–1945—special solemn prayers were recited.
After the conclusion of the Shacharit morning service, prayers were offered in memory of the victims of Nazism and all who perished during the Second World War, along with prayers for peace in Ukraine and around the world, and for the defenders of Ukraine. For the Jewish community of Ukraine, which lost over one and a half million people to the Nazi genocide, this day holds special significance, as it marks the end of the Holocaust—the Nazi extermination of the Jewish people across Europe.
Igor Romanov, head of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities, reported that such prayers were also held in other Jewish communities throughout the region. Jewish religious institutions joined other Ukrainian faith communities in supporting the regional military administration’s appeal to all religious groups of the oblast.
