“STEM Week” – A Fascinating Kaleidoscope of Science and Innovation

At the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum in Dnipro, “STEM Week” was a vibrant celebration of discovery, creativity, and innovation.
(STEM education integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into a unified interdisciplinary learning approach. Instead of studying these subjects separately, STEM connects them to demonstrate how they are applied in the real world to solve complex problems.)

The week began with a lesson titled “On the Wings of STEM,” where younger students explored the surprising properties of colorful cauliflower, amazed everyone with bubble lamps, and collaborated on a striped color tower project — a visual embodiment of physics in action. Third graders dove into the world of polymers, making stress balls and watching magical beads grow.

On Tuesday, students from Grade 7-A showcased their engineering skills by constructing a magnetic maze called “The Path of the Nails Home.” Navigating magnets proved tricky but incredibly fun!

Wednesday was a day of active project work for students from Grades 5 to 11, who were challenged to build various devices — from a bubble cannon to a watermill.

On Thursday, the school corridors transformed into interactive science stations called “Magic in Action.” During breaks, students conducted hands-on experiments, explored magnetic properties, observed race tracks, and discovered popular 3D toys. Even teachers couldn’t resist joining the chemistry lab to try their hand at making slime!

The week concluded with a spectacular STEM Project Festival. Students proudly presented their innovative creations: clever catapults, air-powered vehicles, smart conveyor piggy banks, and even a potato battery!

“This exciting week was a true celebration of science and innovation, inspiring students with new ideas and deepening their interest in STEM subjects,” said Lyceum Deputy Director Svitlana Romenska. “We’re proud of our talented students and eagerly await their future scientific achievements!”

The events were supported by the Jewish community of Dnipro.
