The Joy of Sukkot with Friends: Celebration in the JBBBS Program

The JBBBS (Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters) project of the Dnipro Jewish Community is not just a mentoring program but a true family, where warmth, mutual support, and shared joys prevail. And it was precisely in this way – surrounded by friends and with smiles – that the JBBBS participants welcomed the holiday of Sukkot.

“What is the best way to celebrate Sukkot? Of course, surrounded by friends and with joy in your heart! After all, joy is one of the main commandments of this holiday,” notes Tetiana Kaplunska, the head of the JBBBS project in Dnipro. “The JBBBS program participants gathered with their loved ones to feel the festive atmosphere, have fun, and celebrate Sukkot in the best traditions.”

The leaders and volunteers prepared a puppet show for the children, which told the story of the holiday in a light and engaging way. Afterward, a delicious festive breakfast awaited everyone to gather strength for an exciting quest to find Sukkot-themed stickers. The participants eagerly searched for the correct holiday symbols, demonstrating attentiveness and ingenuity – a true spirit of teamwork and fun.

After the quest, the results were summarized: the most active children were awarded gifts and applause, and then everyone went together to the synagogue to perform the mitzvah of Netilat Lulav – to elevate the “Four Species,” which symbolize the unity of the Jewish people. This moment became the culmination of the day – warm and touching, filled with gratitude and joy.

Such meetings are not just entertainment. They are an opportunity to give children a sense of community, care, and the spiritual meaning of each holiday. We are happy to see each of them discovering Jewish traditions with a smile and curiosity.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kamenetsky, as well as to the communities of Dnipro and Greater Boston for their constant support, which makes such wonderful events possible.

The JBBBS program operates within the Kehilla Project and creates a safe, friendly, and inspiring space for children – even despite the complex challenges of the present.

We invite all interested to join our big family this coming Sunday! Details and registration: 068-480-30-52 (Nataliia).
