The “Judaica” Store and the Sofrut Center Remind About the Importance of Checking Tefillin and Mezuzot

The “Judaica” Store and the Sofrut Center remind everyone that one of the important traditions of the month of Elul is checking tefillin and mezuzot. It is crucial to check mezuzot and tefillin, as even the slightest defect can render them invalid and may lead to very serious consequences. The Lubavitcher Rebbe repeatedly emphasized the importance of checking mezuzot and tefillin during the month of Elul.

It is essential to bring tefillin and mezuzot to an experienced sofer (scribe) this month so that he can carefully inspect each scroll contained within them: whether the ink has flaked off any letters or if there are any other damages. Only a recognized expert—a qualified sofer—can perform this inspection.

In Ukraine, the highest authority in this field is the “National Sofer Center,” located in Dnipro. To have your mezuzot and tefillin inspected by the specialists of the NSC, you can bring them to the “Judaica” store.

The National Sofer Center offers inspection services at the following prices:

  • Mezuzah inspection: 200 UAH.

  • Tefillin inspection:
    Tefillin (sgira hermetit): 2,000 UAH;
    Tefillin pshutim (bli sgira): 1,600 UAH.

The Sofrut Center is located in the side annex of the main prayer hall of the central synagogue “Golden Rose” at: 4 Sholom-Aleichem Street.

The “Judaica” store is located at: the “Menorah” Center (4/26 Sholom-Aleichem Street), first floor, in the Gallery (entrance from Sholom-Aleichem Street).
