Today is the International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism

Every year on November 9th, most civilized countries around the world observe the International Day Against Fascism, Racism, and Antisemitism. It was established on the initiative of the International Network Against Racism UNITED, which brings together over 500 organizations from 49 countries.

November 9th was chosen for this day of fighting xenophobia because it marks the anniversary of Kristallnacht (Crystal Night) – a large-scale pogrom against Jews perpetrated by the Nazi state in 1938. Many experts consider this event to be the transition from a policy of persecution and oppression to the Holocaust – the state-sponsored mass destruction of people based on their ethnicity. You can learn more about these tragic events on the Jewish Museum’s website

Today, the relevance of the International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism is higher than ever, especially in the context of the horrific events in the Holy Land and the wave of antisemitism that has swept the world in their wake. At a time when human civilization is once again facing the challenges of terrorism and antisemitism, emphasizing the importance of tolerance and respect for differences becomes extremely crucial. It is vital to remember the horrors of the Holocaust and to use this day to prevent such manifestations of hatred.
