The Dnipro Jewish Community’s volunteer project Tov VeChesed, led by Chana Neskhes, visited children who require special care due to growing up without parental support and living in specialized institutions established within the “Dobré Vdoma” initiative.
“We always base our sessions on the weekly Torah portion and explain how it relates to our modern lives,” said Chana Neskhes, the project coordinator. “This time, we discussed the Tazria-Metzora portion, which is highly relevant because it teaches how wrong it is to speak badly about others. This message is especially vital for children who live outside of a family and must constantly interact with others—where every word carries great weight. These children need to understand that good relationships aren’t just useful or comfortable, but are what G-d desires. It’s a moral and spiritual matter, not just a practical one.”
In addition to the Torah discussion, the Tov VeChesed volunteers led fun games, handed out sweet treats, and, in the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, offered the children “the greatest luxury — the luxury of human connection.”
