Traditional “Day of Jewish Knowledge” Held in Dnipro

Traditionally, in early November, many Jewish communities around the world hold the annual Global Day of Jewish Learning. This global initiative to popularize Jewish education was launched by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz in 2010. The Dnipro Jewish Community has participated in this day annually since its very inception.

Each year, a new theme is chosen, allowing participants to explore Jewish knowledge from different perspectives. This year’s theme was “The 70 Faces of the Torah”—a reminder of the multidimensionality and depth of sacred texts, which remain a source of inspiration, reflection, and spiritual seeking today.

The central venue for the “Day of Jewish Knowledge 2025” in Dnipro was the International Humanitarian-Pedagogical Institute “Beit Chana”. The event began with a vibrant fair and an official opening ceremony, where participants were greeted by leaders of Jewish institutions actively involved in the day’s activities.

Throughout the day, attendees could choose from a wide variety of formats: lectures, workshops, creative masterclasses, and discussion platforms—ensuring everyone found something that resonated with them. A warm, friendly atmosphere prevailed during the entire event, as shared learning brought together people of different ages, backgrounds, and worldviews.

Lectures and classes given by respected members of the Dnipro Jewish Community generated significant interest. Speakers included Rabbi Meir Tzvi Stambler, Avraham Yosef Itzhak Karshembaum, Alex Ostapovich, Menachem Mendel Margolin, Shoshi Weber, and Lea Lazarova. They generously shared their knowledge, ideas, and love for Jewish wisdom, enabling participants to see the Torah from a new angle and feel its living presence in modern life.

A separate educational program from PJ Library was organized for children, combining reading, games, and creativity. For teenagers, a dedicated block of interactive sessions and workshops was created, allowing them to explore the values and meanings of Jewish tradition in a format that was close and relatable to them.

The event culminated in an exciting interactive quiz that united participants from different cities across Ukraine. The winners received gifts and souvenirs, while all participants took away a positive mood, a sense of teamwork, and a feeling of unity.

“I want to express my deep gratitude to the Dnipro Jewish Community, for which the spiritual support of cultural initiatives has always been and remains a priority,” said Alona Kolpina, Director of the Hillel Jewish Student Cultural Center. “I want to wholeheartedly thank all the organizers of this event, which included the Hillel Jewish Student Cultural Center, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, the International Humanitarian-Pedagogical Institute ‘Beit Chana’, the ‘Nativ’ Israeli Cultural Center, the ‘Sokhnut-Ukraine’ branch, the ‘Moishe House Dnipro’ Jewish community, and the Dnipro Volunteer Community.”
