Visit of Czech Ambassador Luboš Veselý to the Dnipro Jewish Community

As part of his visit to Dnipro, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine, Luboš Veselý, accompanied by diplomats, visited the Dnipro Jewish Community and held a fruitful meeting with the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Shmuel Kaminezki.

At the beginning of the visit, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Luboš Veselý, accompanied by Václav Kallus, First Secretary (Diplomat responsible for cooperation with Dnipropetrovsk region); Pavel Kameník, First Secretary (Diplomat responsible for cooperation with Dnipropetrovsk region); and Nataliia Andrieieva, Specialist in Economic Affairs, acquainted themselves with the world’s largest Jewish center, “Menorah”. They explored its infrastructure, capabilities, and the role “Menorah” plays in the life of Dnipro, our region, and all of Ukraine. The tour of “Menorah” for the Ambassador and the Czech delegation was conducted by the Complex’s General Director, Ms. Svitlana Yermakova.

An important part of the visit for the Czech diplomatic delegation was a tour of the “Memory of the Jewish People and the Holocaust in Ukraine” Museum. The tour of the exhibition was led by the museum’s director, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Dr. Iryna Radchenko, who spoke about the role of this historical institution in shaping modern Ukrainian identity and the experience of comprehending painful and complex issues of historical memory.

The culmination of the visit was a meeting with the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Shmuel Kaminezki. During the meeting, a number of current issues regarding the development of Jewish life in modern conditions were discussed, along with the role of the Jewish community in the life of the region and its significance for strengthening ethnic and religious peace and understanding in Ukraine. The parties also discussed prospects for developing cooperation, noting the important role of Czech initiatives in the recovery and development of our region.
