On the eve of the Shavuot holiday, the Jewish Community of Dnipro was honored by a visit from a delegation of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine, led by His Excellency Gaël Veyssière, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine. The delegation also included Olivier Jacquot, Cultural and Cooperation Advisor, and François Cottel, Political Advisor.
The distinguished guests were welcomed by the Director of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, Mr. Zelig Brez, who guided them through the key institutions of the community — the central synagogue “Golden Rose,” the National Sofer Center, the world’s largest Jewish center “Menorah,” the Museum “Memory of the Jewish People and the Holocaust in Ukraine,” and the Jewish Medical Center (JMC).
The guests were deeply impressed by what they saw. Mr. Zelig Brez shared the history of the Jewish community, the destruction of Jewish life in the 20th century, the community’s revival after Ukraine gained independence, and why Dnipro has become a leading center of Jewish renewal in the post-Soviet space. Special attention was paid to the plans for future development, even amid today’s complex realities.
The French Embassy delegation also attended a festive event marking the end of the academic year at the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144 — the flagship educational institution of the community. His Excellency Gaël Veyssière addressed the students and community members as part of the annual “Success Award” ceremony. A full report will be published on our website soon.
