A vort ceremony was held for David Maltsev, an active member of the Jewish Community of Dnipro and a well-known artist, participant of the “DJCY–STL–STARS Dnipro” program, and Rina Fridman, a participant of a similar student program in Kyiv.
The engagement took place in the bride’s city, where David and Rina first met during a STARS student camp. The key ritual, Kinyan, was performed by Rabbi Pinchas Vishedski, head of the Kyiv “Kedem” community. The bride’s parents — Yakiv and Iryna Fridman — and the groom’s parents — Itzhak and Chaya Maltsev — warmly congratulated their children and wished them to stand under the chuppah very soon, at a good and auspicious time, and to build a strong Jewish home founded on Torah and mitzvot.
The ceremony took place in Kyiv on the holiday of Pesach Sheni, and the groom’s father, Itzhak Maltsev, shared the details with our website:
“First, everyone enjoyed refreshments and said l’chaim. I spoke about our children, shared Jewish stories about family life and about our family. Rabbi Pinchas Vishedski delivered words of Torah about engagement, about our wonderful bride and groom, the importance of the STARS program, and also about the Mezuzah campaign taking place in the Kyiv Jewish community of Kedem (our family gifted the rabbi a 20×20 cm mezuzah, written by me; after presenting it, I rolled it up and placed it in a case).
Then came the Kinyan, the mothers broke a plate, and the groom delivered a Hasidic maamar in honor of Pesach Sheni — the maamar of our Rebbe, “…To Understand the Essence of Pesach Sheni” (1978).
During the meal, of course, we had matzah, and there were many conversations around the table about the meaning of the Second Pesach. Rabbi Daniel Lenau also spoke, and guests offered their congratulations.
We are truly grateful to Rabbi Pinchas Vishedski and his community for hosting the engagement and organizing a beautiful meal, and to everyone who shared in our joy on this special day.”
