At the “Beit Tsindlicht” Children’s Educational Center, the main preschool institution of the Jewish community of Dnipro, Vyshyvanka Day was celebrated with great joy. Since 2006, this unofficial holiday has been observed in Ukraine, initiated by students of Chernivtsi National University. It has become a recognized symbol of unity among Ukrainian citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion, forming a shared civic and political nation.
On this day, the children came to kindergarten wearing beautiful vyshyvankas — traditional embroidered Ukrainian shirts — highlighting the Ukrainian part of their identity. The day’s activities also included a special focus on Ukrainian culture and heritage.
“We teach respect for traditions — both Jewish and Ukrainian — because they are part of who we are,” said Natalia Proshchenko, head of the preschool. “This is a truly beautiful celebration, and everyone enjoys it — children and adults alike.”
