Yom HaAtzmaut in Dnipro

In early June, more than one hundred participants of various ages gathered together to brightly and warmly celebrate Israel’s Independence Day – Yom HaAtzmaut. This day became a true celebration of unity, joy, and exploration of the multifaceted Israeli culture.

The celebration was made possible through the collaboration of four organizations: the “Nativ” Israeli Cultural Center in Dnipro, the “Hillel” Jewish Student Cultural Center, the “Sokhnut-Ukraine” Branch, and the Moishe House Dnipro Jewish community. By joining forces, they created a space where every participant could find an activity to their liking and feel part of a large community.

Throughout the day, guests enjoyed a rich program. Various interactive stations operated on the event grounds: children and adults enjoyed cotton candy and popcorn, tried on bright looks with face painting, joined in creating a large collaborative coloring page, and tested their knowledge in themed quizzes. A special atmosphere was created by Israeli treats, which allowed participants to get closer to the flavors of Israel.

After the ceremonial opening of the event, the performance of the national anthems, and welcoming words from the organizers, guests immersed themselves in creativity. Participants enthusiastically took part in workshops: they painted tote bags, created wool paintings, braided bracelets, decorated hamsas, assembled mosaics, and designed their own T-shirts. A special highlight of the program was a culinary master class on making traditional Israeli pitas, which attracted many eager participants and provided not only new knowledge but also a delicious result.

The festive day concluded with a lottery featuring pleasant commemorative gifts. The drawing generated many emotions and smiles and became another reason for shared joy.

Yom HaAtzmaut in Dnipro once again proved that such events are much more than just festive occasions. They unite people around shared values, introduce them to Israel’s cultural heritage, create a space for new acquaintances, and strengthen the sense of belonging to the Jewish community. Participants returned home with warm memories, bright impressions, and a desire to meet again at future joint events.
