Preparations are underway at the “Beit Baruch” Senior Home, the unique social institution of the Dnipro Jewish kehillah, for a new musical performance. The show will be presented on January 21st, the day marking the home’s twenty-fourth anniversary.
This year’s performance has a special concept. At the heart of the script, developed under the guidance of the head of the “Beit Baruch” creative studio, Rivka Lazareva, is the desire to pay attention to every resident and every staff member—to call each by name and to present each with a personal song, warm words, and an individual bracha.
The musical part of the program is built on well-known and beloved melodies close to the older generation. At the same time, the lyrical content has been significantly reworked. While keeping a recognizable form, the meaning has become entirely new. This approach is very popular with the home’s residents, as it allows the audience to sing along and participate actively, while also preserving an element of surprise and novelty.
“The entire script has been prepared in the Ukrainian language. For many members of the troupe, including internally displaced persons from Sievierodonetsk and Luhansk, this has presented a certain challenge. However, everyone is working on the performance with great responsibility and inspiration, striving to make it as dignified and sincere as possible,” says Rivka Lazareva. “Of course, we are a bit nervous, as this is a very responsible event, and we must be mindful of the age and health of our wonderful performers. But I am confident that those who come to congratulate us on our Birthday will receive great nachas from our performance. It will be an expression of our gratitude for the happy years of life granted to the elderly by the Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
