Creative Activities at Beit Baruch – Part of a Program for Longevity and an Active Life

Various creative activities take place on an ongoing basis at the “Beit Baruch” Home for the Elderly, a unique social institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community. These activities help residents maintain their activity, develop their abilities, gain new experiences, and fill each day with interesting content. Such activities have become an important part of life at the Home and are held regularly, creating additional opportunities for the elderly to socialize, express themselves, and grow personally.

Particularly popular are the meetings of the literary and music studios under the direction of Rivka Lazareva, as well as the drawing and water mosaic creation sessions conducted by psychologist Anzhelika Basha and social worker Volodymyr Trofymenko. Creative meetings take place two to three times per week, while drawing and water mosaic activities are typically organized on Thursdays.

During these sessions, residents create drawings, master various creative techniques, and work with water mosaics – special kits in which an image is assembled from individual pieces and then fixed using water, transforming into a single composition. The finished works become memorable souvenirs, decorations, or simply a pleasant reminder of time spent engaged in a captivating creative process.

Such activities have not only creative but also important practical significance. They help maintain cognitive functions, keep thinking active, train memory and attention, and develop fine motor skills and coordination. No less important is the emotional aspect: creativity brings joy, helps maintain a good mood, facilitates social interaction, and positively affects the quality of life of the elderly.

“We strive to ensure that every week of our residents is filled with interesting events, new experiences, and opportunities for self-realization,” said Malvina Ruvinska, Director of the “Beit Baruch” Home for the Elderly. “Creative activities help maintain activity, support intellectual and emotional well-being, discover new abilities, and simply enjoy life. It is from such moments that a fulfilling, rich, and happy life in the golden age is built – a life made possible for these elderly people thanks to the support, attention, and care of our beloved, united, and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
