Rosh HaShanah with JBBBS: A Celebration of Children’s Smiles and Unity

The JBBBS (Jewish Big Brothers/Big Sisters) project of the Dnipro Jewish Community gifted children and their families an unforgettable Rosh HaShanah celebration. Participants welcomed the Jewish New Year in a warm atmosphere of creativity, joy, and genuine spiritual uplift.

“The holiday begins where children’s laughter is heard, where their eyes shine with happiness, and a sense of unity is felt among all present. This is exactly how we celebrated Rosh HaShanah this year,” shares the project manager, Tetiana Kaplunska.

The holiday program was rich and diverse. At a creative workshop, children handcrafted symbols of the New Year from clay and made bright keychains. This was followed by an exciting quiz that added a spirit of competition and teamwork. One of the teams scored the highest number of points, but the winners decided to share their delicious gift with their rivals – this gesture of generosity and friendship became an inspiring example for everyone.

A special moment of the celebration was the blowing of the shofar, performed for us by Rabbi Reuven Milman. This was not only a symbolic ritual but also a moment of concentration and silence, when even the youngest participants held their breath and reflected on their own actions. An atmosphere of unity, warmth, and spirituality prevailed during this time.

The day concluded with a festive meal featuring all the traditional Rosh HaShanah dishes and symbols. And Mrs. Chana Neshes sweetened the evening with a special “kabbalistic dessert” – an interesting maiseh about an older brother that left everyone in deep thought.

The celebration was made possible thanks to the support of the Jewish communities of Boston and Dnipro, as well as the care of the Chief Rabbi of the city and region, Shmuel Kaminezki.
