A discussion was held regarding the continued improvement of the territory and the upcoming reconstruction of the memorial to the victims of Nazism, located on the grounds of the Regional Psychiatric Hospital in the Samarskyi district of the city of Dnipro (the historical name of the area is Igren).<\/p>

<\/p>

The meeting was attended by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Shmuel Kaminezki, and the Chief Doctor of the Regional Psychiatric Hospital, Svitlana Moroz. They discussed the completion of the first phase of the improvement and the next steps toward updating the memorial complex located on the hospital\u2019s premises.<\/p>

<\/p>

In the fall of 1941, the Nazis sent a special unit to the territory of the Igren Psychiatric Hospital with the goal of exterminating its patients and medical staff. Among the innocent victims were Jews \u2014 doctors, patients, and residents of nearby villages. One of the murdered was Dov-Ber Schneerson, the second son of the Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinoslav-Dnipropetrovsk, the righteous Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, and the brother of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson. <\/p>

<\/p>

Dr. Svitlana Moroz and Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki emphasized the importance of creating a dignified memorial to honor the memory of the victims of the Nazi genocide. Recently, the area around the mass grave was landscaped, with a canopy and convenient access installed. The next phase will be the renovation of the memorial steles. <\/p>

<\/p>

The burial site on the hospital grounds has been visited numerous times by international delegations. It is included in the official register of sites of memory for victims of Nazi genocide and is known far beyond Ukraine.<\/p>

It is worth noting that in November 2016, this site was visited by the daughter of a Nazi officer who had directly participated in executions in Igren.
