This Shabbos \u2013 the one preceding the holiday of Purim \u2013 holds special significance in Judaism and is called “Shabbos Zachor.” It is crucial for everyone \u2013 men, women, and children \u2013 to come to the synagogue and listen to the “Zachor” portion, which means “Remember.” It recounts the crimes committed against the Jewish people by Amalek and his descendants, including Haman in the days of King Achashverosh, and all the “Hamans” throughout the generations. <\/p>

Hearing the “Zachor” portion fulfills a Torah commandment: “Remember (Zachor) what Amalek did to you,” as well as the directive to “erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven \u2013 do not forget.” The “Zachor” portion is read after the weekly Torah reading, before the “Haftarah,” which is taken from the Book of Shmuel and recounts the story of King Shaul, who deviated from Hashem’s command regarding Agag, the Amalekite king from whose lineage Haman later descended. <\/p>

It is very important to hear the “Zachor” portion during the Shacharis morning prayer in the synagogue on the Shabbos before Purim. This obligation applies equally to men and women.<\/p>

This Shabbos, Shacharis prayers at the “Golden Rose” Central Synagogue will begin at 10:00 AM. The reading of the Torah, the “Zachor” portion, and the “Haftarah” will take place at approximately 11:00 AM.<\/p>
