This mitzvah applies equally to men and women, to the elderly and to the youngest.<\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">\u2013 Take an active part in the festive meal (or organize one yourself). The main Purim feast is held during the day, after the morning Megillah reading, and should be abundant with food, wine, and joy. The daytime Purim feast is a mitzvah; it should begin shortly after noon and continue into the evening.<\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">\u2013 Send food gifts to friends \u2013 &#8220;shalachmones&#8221; (Hebrew: Mishloach Manos). To fulfill this mitzvah, everyone is obligated to send a gift to at least one friend (man to man, woman to woman) consisting of at least two different types of food. In this context, &#8220;food&#8221; refers to items that can be eaten or drunk immediately, without further preparation. It is customary to send the portions via a messenger, not to deliver them personally, as the very name of the mitzvah implies &#8220;sending&#8221; through someone. Portions are sent during the day and \u2013 attention! \u2013 they must be kosher.<\/p><p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">\u2013 Give generously to the needy \u2013 Matanos LaEvyonim. On Purim, everyone must give charity to at least two needy individuals.
