This evening, May 21, after sunset, the holiday of Shavuot begins. It is celebrated on the fiftieth day after Pesach, in honor of the Jewish people receiving the holy Torah at Mount Sinai.

<\/p>

The holiday is observed for two days \u2013 the 6th and 7th of the month of Sivan. On the first day of the holiday, during the morning prayer, the Decalogue \u2013 the Ten Commandments \u2013 is solemnly proclaimed in the synagogue. On the second day, the Yizkor memorial prayer is recited.

<\/p>

Every Jew must hear the Ten Commandments and reaffirm their acceptance of all the commandments of the Torah, just as our ancestors did at Mount Sinai. Those who have lost one or both parents should be present for the Yizkor memorial prayer.

<\/p>

This year, holiday candles should be lit on May 21 at 8:03 PM.<\/strong><\/p>

The Decalogue (Ten Commandments) will be read on May 22 at 11:00 AM and at 7:00 PM.<\/strong><\/p>

The Yizkor prayer will be recited on May 23 at 11:30 AM, and the holiday concludes after 9:09 PM.<\/strong>
