A new episode in the weekly lesson series by Chief Rabbi of Dnipro Shmuel Kaminezki has been released on the “Menorah” YouTube channel, dedicated to the combined Torah portion of Matos-Masei. In this lesson, the Rav addresses one of the most important themes \u2013 the relationship between Divine Providence, a person’s freedom of choice, and the influence of astrological predictions.

<\/p>

The portion of Matos-Masei serves as a starting point for a discussion about whether the stars truly have the power to determine human destiny and whether a person can change what appears to be predetermined. Turning to the texts of the Torah, the Talmud, and Jewish tradition, the Rav reveals the profound meaning of the concept of mazal and explains what place it holds in the life of every individual.

In his explanation, Rav Shmuel Kaminezki emphasizes that while the influence of celestial forces does exist, it is not an absolute verdict. A sincere connection with the Almighty, good deeds, acts of kindness, and the fulfillment of mitzvos have the power to change even the most unfavorable predictions.

Special attention is given to why, in Jewish tradition, a new name is sometimes added for the sick, how good deeds help change one’s destiny, and what lessons can be learned from the stories of Rabbi Akiva’s daughter, as well as from Avraham and Sarah, who \u2013 contrary to all astrological forecasts \u2013 were granted offspring.
