The September issue of the “Shabbos Shalom” newspaper acquaints readers with the most important events in the life of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, spiritual and educational initiatives, historical materials, and stories about the people who are part of the community. On the pages of this issue \u2013 international guests, youth and charitable projects, preparation for Rosh Hashanah, cultural events, the history of Dnipro and Jewish heritage. <\/p>

<\/p>

The front page features a piece titled “Visit for Ukraine’s Independence Day,” dedicated to the visit to the Jewish Community of Dnipro of U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Meghan Gregonis. Readers will also learn about the all-Ukrainian professional seminar “JFuture” in Uzhhorod, in which the Dnipro team actively participated. <\/p>

<\/p>

The second page is traditionally devoted to the spiritual life of the community. It features a piece by Irina Lazareva, “Simple Solutions to Difficult Questions” \u2013 an overview of the weekly video addresses of Chief Rabbi of Dnipro Shmuel Kaminezki. In them, the Rav speaks about the joy of performing mitzvos, the causes and roots of antisemitism, and important community plans. Alongside is a piece titled “The Sound of the Shofar Is Heard,” about the preparation of the residents of the “Beit Baruch” Home for the Elderly for Rosh Hashanah. The page concludes with a story by Veronika Shlaina, “A Time of Open Hearts,” about a women’s farbrengen at the Dnipro Synagogue dedicated to the beginning of the month of Elul. <\/p>

The third page is traditionally dedicated to the activities of the Chesed Menachem Charitable Foundation.<\/p>

<\/p>

On the fourth page, readers will find several stories about community life. Irina Lazareva, in her piece “Dnipro Cannot Be Erased from Oneself,” tells about Rachel Vinogradova, the unity of Dnipro’s Jews now living in various parts of the world, and the “Dnipro Nashym” community. Veronika Shlaina, in her piece “The Path to the Sources,” invites readers to explore the “Kosher Menorah” and “Menorah Kids” excursion programs and discover the hidden meanings of the Menorah Center. Also on this page is a story about a joint hike by participants of the Solomonika Jewish Cultural Center to the Youth Theater, and a creative portrait of Valery Litman, “Song as the Meaning of Life.” <\/p>

<\/p>

The fifth page is entirely dedicated to the opening in Dnipro of the final part of the large-scale international exhibition “Jerusalem \u2013 Dnipro. From A to Z.” In a report by Valentin Khoroshun \u2013 a story about the exhibition’s concept, built on parallels between the Ukrainian and Hebrew alphabets, as well as its presentation in Dnipro. <\/p>

<\/p>

The sixth page features two diverse materials. A historical essay by Mykola Bulany, “The Iffland Ring,” tells the story of a famous theatrical relic of German-language theater and actor Alexander Moissi, who was persecuted as a Jew even though he was not one. The second piece, “The Unbreakable Spirit of the Tzaddik,” prepared by Veronika Shlaina, is dedicated to a women’s farbrengen at the Menorah Center for the 20th of Av \u2013 the day of remembrance of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, father of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe. <\/p>

<\/p>

The seventh page transports readers to the modern history of Ukraine. A long piece by Alexander Bystryakov, “The Hryvnia \u2013 Banknotes and Coins,” was prepared for the 30th anniversary of the monetary reform in Ukraine. It discusses the history of Ukrainian banknotes, the release of the new 2000-hryvnia bill featuring the portrait of Vasyl Stus, as well as investment and commemorative coins of the National Bank of Ukraine. <\/p>

<\/p>

The eighth page traditionally concludes the issue with a kaleidoscope of community life: birthday and anniversary greetings, announcements, and anecdotes.<\/p>
