On the eve of the new year 5787, the Office of the Jewish Community of Dnipro has presented its traditional calendars \u2013 large wall calendars and convenient desktop flip calendars. They reflect the schedule of the onset times of Shabbos, holidays, and fasts for our city, making the calendar a true guide for the entire year. The epigraph of this year’s edition is a profound thought from the Lubavitcher Rebbe: “Inner peace does not mean that you do not see the danger. It means that you do not allow the danger to deprive you of your ability to live.” <\/p>

The wall calendar, as always, is produced in A-1 format, and both calendars are traditionally distributed free of charge among Jewish organizations of Dnipro, community activists, and congregants of the Golden Rose Synagogue. This year, a Ukrainian version of this highly useful publication has also been released. <\/p>

The calendar’s particular convenience lies in its structure: each week is provided with the exact time for lighting Shabbos and holiday candles, weekly Torah portions are marked, as well as the days for which comments with brief explanations of the customs and features of the service are given. The times for the beginning and end of Shabbos and holidays are provided according to the opinion of the Alter Rebbe, founder of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. In addition, the calendar includes the contact details of the central Golden Rose Synagogue, making it a practical reference guide as well. <\/p>

The comments included in the publication help one easily navigate the prayer order: days when Tachanun is not recited are marked, as well as when the Musaf prayer is added, when a full or half-Hallel is recited, and other important details of the services.<\/p>

This year’s calendar edition is dedicated to the blessed memory of Zacharia ben Shmuel Kamenetsky, who departed this world on the 13th of Sivan 5738, and Naftula Chaya bas Pinchas Kamenetsky, who departed this world on the 20th of Tevet 5769, by their son and grandson, Shloimo ben Zacharia and Zachar ben Shloimo Kamenetsky, sponsors of the publication of this calendar.
