The October issue of the “Shabbos Shalom” newspaper is dedicated to the start of the school year, the festive days of the month of Tishrei, the life and educational programs of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, as well as the history of the Jewish heritage of Ukraine. On the pages of this issue \u2013 meetings of generations, spiritual events, youth initiatives, exhibitions dedicated to the history of Jewish towns, and stories about people who left a notable mark on Jewish and Ukrainian history. <\/p>

<\/p>

On the front page is a piece by Irina Lazareva, “Giving Wings,” about September 1, which remains a holiday even under the difficult conditions of our time. The symbol of Knowledge Day this year was a paper airplane \u2013 an image of a dream and the striving forward, especially important for children who are just beginning their school journey. Alongside is “Heroes of Sholom Aleichem” by Grigoriy Gelfar, about an unusual gift to the Jewish Community of Dnipro \u2013 a bronze sculpture dedicated to the heroes of Sholom Aleichem’s works. The continuation of the piece is published on the fifth page. <\/p>

<\/p>

The second page is traditionally devoted to the spiritual life of the community. Here Irina Lazareva presents another overview of the video addresses of the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki \u2013 “Awaiting Miracles.” The piece “Yom Tov Sukkos in the Community” tells about the first two days of Sukkos and the festive meals that brought together thousands of community members, their families, and loved ones. The page concludes with a piece titled “Opening a New Season” about the start of the new season of the “Junior” program at the Solomonika Jewish Cultural Center. <\/p>

<\/p>

The third page is traditionally dedicated to the work of the Chesed Menachem Charitable Foundation. In the piece “Chesed Menachem in September 2026” \u2013 the events and areas of the foundation’s activity during the month. <\/p>

<\/p>

The fourth page features materials about various aspects of community life. “An Unbreakable Bond” tells about a meeting between students of the Jewish Lyceum and the residents of the “Beit Baruch” Home for the Elderly, and about the connection that unites different generations. In the piece “Memory That Unites Hearts” \u2013 a story about a women’s farbrengen at the Menorah Center held on the 6th of Tishrei, the day of remembrance of Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson. “10 Days That Change the Year” is dedicated to the special period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur \u2013 the Ten Days of Repentance. And the piece “Festive Shabbos” tells about the Model Family Shabbos dedicated to Rosh Hashanah and the holidays of the month of Tishrei. <\/p>

The fifth page continues the theme of community life and Jewish heritage. In the piece “A New Start, New Knowledge,” it tells about the beginning of a new cycle of educational and spiritual programs of “Menorah Community,” which brought together the young Jews of Dnipro. Here too is the continuation of the story about the bronze sculpture “Heroes of Sholom Aleichem,” gifted to the community by Grigoriy Gelfar. The page concludes with a piece titled “Light Through the Decades” about the return of Jewish communities to their synagogues in the 1990s and the restoration not only of the buildings themselves but also of their spiritual content. <\/p>

The sixth page transports readers into the history of the Jewish towns of Ukraine. Valentin Khoroshun, in his piece “Places of Power and Memory: The Vanished World of Jewish Towns,” tells about the opening at the Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” of the photo exhibition “Ukrainian Shtetl. Return to Places of Power. Photographic Journeys Through Former Jewish Towns.” Alongside is an interview with the exhibition’s author, Professor Yevgeny Kotlyar \u2013 “Yevgeny Kotlyar: ‘This Is My Great Historical Journey, Which Continues to This Day.'” The conversation was also recorded by Valentin Khoroshun. <\/p>

<\/p>

The seventh page is dedicated to the history of the famous Kyiv jeweler Iosif Marshak. In the piece by Mykola Bulany, “‘The Kyiv Cartier’ and the Fate of His Craft,” it tells about the master whose name in the Russian Empire was known as one of the major jewelry brands competing with Faberg\u00e9, as well as about the subsequent fate of his craft and legacy. <\/p>

<\/p>

The eighth page traditionally concludes the issue: with birthday and anniversary greetings, announcements, and anecdotes.<\/p>
