A new app, “My Lot”<\/a>, from the mychitas.app<\/a> project, developed by Rabbi Reuven Grinberg, who worked for many years in the Jewish Community of Dnipro in the field of children’s education and as a sofer at the National Sofer Center, has become available for Jewish children and families. The app is intended to help a Jewish child grasp an important idea of Jewish tradition: that they have their own chelek \u2013 a portion that the Almighty gave specifically to them \u2013 and that their talents, character, and even difficulties are not a coincidence. <\/p>

<\/p>

“My Lot”<\/a> is an interactive adventure for children aged eight to fifteen, created based on the lesson by Rabbi Shneur Ashkenazi, “The Secret of the Book of Koheles.” Its main educational purpose is to help a Jewish child, through game situations and reflection, become aware of the place in the world already given to them and understand how to use their abilities to fulfill their purpose. The goal is defined, and the choice concerns the path by which the child walks toward it, and how they realize the portion entrusted to them. <\/p>

<\/p>

The guide on this journey is the Guardian of an ancient library, together with whom the child passes through the seven worlds of the book of Koheles and assembles a large puzzle, while at the same time finding their own piece within it. This image makes it possible to present a complex idea in a form understandable to children: everyone has their own place in the overall picture, and understanding one’s own portion is connected to an awareness of one’s participation in the great whole. The child is to recognize their piece and understand what place they occupy in the overall puzzle. <\/p>

<\/p>

An important feature of the app is the absence of “right” and “wrong” answers. Every choice is valuable, and the child can see what would have happened had they chosen differently. This approach makes it possible to consider different paths, return to a decision made, and reflect on its significance. The game’s branching points help one understand how different decisions affect the journey toward the already-defined goal and the realization of one’s purpose. <\/p>

<\/p>

A special place in the app is occupied by the choice of a personal verse from Tanach as one’s “chelek” in the Torah. This possibility connects the awareness of one’s destiny with the Jewish text, helping the child find in the Torah support for understanding their purpose and fulfilling it in daily life. <\/p>

<\/p>

For different age groups, two versions of the texts are provided \u2013 for children aged eight to eleven and twelve to fifteen. The Guardian of the ancient library reads the texts aloud and prompts what to do, thanks to which children who still read slowly can also take part in the adventure independently. Chabad niggunim play in the background, accompanying the journey through the worlds of the book of Koheles. <\/p>

<\/p>

The app is available in four languages \u2013 Ukrainian, German, English, and Russian. It can be used both for a family evening and for a lesson at school: the proposed topics and situations provide a basis for children, parents, and educators to discuss together questions about talents, difficulties, and the decisions that help a Jewish child become aware of and realize their portion. <\/p>

“We want to help a Jewish child understand that their talents, character, and even difficulties are part of the portion that the Almighty entrusted specifically to them,” says Rabbi Reuven Grinberg. “The image of a large puzzle makes it possible to realize that their piece is necessary and that their place already exists in the overall picture. Becoming acquainted with the book of Koheles, the game situations, and the choice of a personal verse from Tanach help the child understand their chelek and reflect on which path to take toward fulfilling their purpose.”<\/p>
