The Jewish Community of Dnipro presents the prayer schedule and invites you to the holiday of Yom Kippur.
It is customary to spend most of Yom Kippur in the synagogue. However, it is most important to be present for the key prayers, and it is crucial that all family members attend, so that all Jews of the city turn to the Almighty with a plea for a peaceful, prosperous year for all, and for health, happiness, and joy for each individual.
Yom Kippur is a day when we are like angels. We do not eat or drink, even if Yom Kippur falls on Shabbat. On Yom Kippur, the following are also forbidden: all types of washing (ablutions, bathing), the use of perfumes and cosmetics (including soap, toothpaste, etc.), wearing leather shoes, and marital relations. The Torah tells us about this: “For you shall afflict your souls…”.
Married men wear a white robe (kittel) for the prayers, which on this day symbolizes purification.
The fast begins on the eve, October 1st, at sunset. Before this, one should eat a substantial meal and drink sufficiently. One who does this is credited as if they had fasted for two days. Also, before sunset, women light the holiday candles.
The “Kol Nidrei” (All Vows) prayer opens Yom Kippur on the evening of October 1st at 6:30 PM.
The “Yizkor” prayer, very important for those who have lost one or both parents, is on October 2nd at 12:00 PM. Individual memorial prayers will be read afterwards.
The “Ne’ilah” prayer, the concluding prayer of Yom Kippur, is on October 2nd at 5:50 PM.
Then comes the climax of the Day of Atonement – THE SOUNDING OF THE SHOFAR!
The verdict is sealed. The gates lock in the palace of the Almighty. But we are not left outside the gates. On the contrary, we are inside beyond the gates, alone with the Almighty. We are confident in a favorable verdict, that the year will be happy and sweet.
And the next holiday, Sukkot, awaits us!
We present to you the detailed prayer schedule at the Central Synagogue “Golden Rose”.
