Traditional Meal After Yom Kippur Held at the Jewish Community of Dnipro

Immediately after the conclusion of the Yom Kippur fast, a festive meal was held at the Jewish Community of Dnipro, traditionally organized by the Weber family. Each year it becomes a warm opportunity for community members to gather together after the holiest day of the year, share the joy of the holiday, and refresh themselves after the long fast.

The tradition of holding a meal immediately after Yom Kippur is connected to the words of the Sages of the Torah: “Go, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a glad heart, for G-d has already accepted your deeds” (Koheles 9:7). As Rabbi Moishe Leib Weber noted, in the “Kitzur Shulchan Aruch,” Yom Kippur is called both a holiday and a day of fasting, and therefore immediately after its conclusion, a festive meal should be held.

For over five years now, the Weber family has held such a gathering at the Jewish Community of Dnipro. The meal “Motzaei Yom Kippur 5787” was dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Doba, daughter of Rabbi Avraham, Kaminezki, whose yahrzeit falls on the 11th of Tishrei. Those gathered were able to conclude the fast together, socialize, and spend this special evening in an atmosphere of joy and unity.

According to Rabbi Weber, of particular significance is the opportunity to feed people after the 24-hour Yom Kippur fast. And when the entire community gathers at a single meal, it becomes not only an expression of care but also a source of great brachah.

The organizers expressed gratitude to the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki, for the opportunity to hold this meal, to all who joined the gathering, and to the staff of the Menorah Center for their assistance and tremendous work in preparing the festive table.
