Customs and Finance University Students Begin Internship at the Jewish Museum of Dnipro

At the Dnipro museum “Memory of the Jewish People and the Holocaust in Ukraine”, a two-week academic internship has begun for second-year students from the University of Customs and Finance. These students are enrolled in the educational program “History and Anthropology of Law.”

During a meeting with the interns and their university supervisor, Professor Oleh Morozov, Head of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, the Museum’s Director, PhD in History Iryna Radchenko, emphasized the value of hands-on experience. She noted the advantages students gain from real-life interaction with professionals and direct access to exhibitions and collections.

Next, the internship coordinator, museum researcher and PhD in History Olena Ishchenko, outlined the key areas of student engagement and provided a general overview of the internship schedule. Professor Morozov followed up with important details regarding reporting deadlines and evaluation criteria at the university department. Then, each of the museum’s department heads addressed the group: Head Curator of Collections Liudmyla Sandul, Head Librarian Zoriana Bondar, and Researcher Daria Yesina shared typical tasks students will undertake and wished them success in their professional journey.

On the first day of the internship, students also took part in two guided tours. Olena Ishchenko introduced them to the museum’s temporary exhibitions and explained this crucial component of curatorial work. Liudmyla Sandul led a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum’s storage facilities, explaining the specific methods used to preserve different categories of artifacts and detailing the latest technologies employed to protect collections from emergency risks. Following these sessions, the students headed to their respective “workstations” to begin immersing themselves in the profession of historian-museologist.
