A new phase of the “100 Mezuzahs – 100 Homes” program was implemented in the Dnipro Jewish Community, aimed at enabling as many Jewish families as possible to fulfill one of the most important mitzvos of the Torah – affixing a kosher mezuzah in their home. Thanks to the visit of a delegation from the Richmond Jewish Community (Virginia, USA), this work became part of the international Mezuz.us project, which unites Jews from many countries around the world in the fulfillment of this essential mitzvah.
During their visit to Dnipro, representatives of the Richmond Jewish Community – Rabbi Menachem Mendel Lessoff, director of the Chabad Student Center at Virginia Commonwealth University, and his esteemed wife Daniella – presented Chief Rabbi of Dnipro Shmuel Kaminezki with the mezuzahs they had brought with them. They emphasized that it was very meaningful to them that the project was beginning to be implemented in Ukraine, and specifically in the renowned Dnipro community.
In total, the Mezuz.us project has delivered over five hundred mezuzahs to Jewish communities in Ukraine. In Dnipro, members of the delegation personally participated in affixing them in many Jewish homes, assisted by Rabbis Reuven Kaminezki and Reuven Milman, as well as Chaya Prasolova.
The Mezuz.us project was founded in the United States with a simple yet profound goal – to help every Jew affix a kosher mezuzah in their home, regardless of where they live or what resources they have. Over the years, this initiative has helped install over ten thousand mezuzahs, uniting Jewish communities, organizations, and numerous volunteers in the United States, Israel, Australia, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Guatemala, and many other countries.
Behind every mezuzah distributed through the Mezuz.us project is a human story – a family taking another step toward observing the mitzvos, a young person affixing a mezuzah for the first time on the door of their home, or a student establishing their first Jewish home. It is from such stories that the great endeavor of strengthening Jewish life is built, supported today by thousands of people around the world.
“We are very pleased that our friends from Richmond brought this wonderful gift to Dnipro – mezuzahs intended to spread the light of Yiddishkeit, Torah, and mitzvos. For the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s shluchim, the dissemination of mezuzahs is one of the most important missions, as the ‘Mivtza Mezuzah’ campaign, one of the famous Ten Mivtzoim of the Rebbe, emphasizes the importance of every Jew having kosher mezuzahs in their home. The Rebbe repeatedly stressed that the mezuzah is not only the fulfillment of a commandment of the Almighty but also brings sanctity, blessing, and special spiritual protection to the Jewish home, constantly reminding those who live there of their unbreakable connection to Torah and Jewish tradition,” noted Rabbi Reuven Kaminezki. “We are sincerely grateful to our friends from Richmond for this initiative, which is especially important for our city. Rabbi Lessoff’s wife is the daughter of our community’s esteemed director, Zeilig Brez, and this campaign brings us in Ukraine even closer to our friends in the United States. On behalf of our entire united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community, under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, I sincerely thank the entire Mezuz.us project, and especially Menachem Mendel and Daniella.”
