Kaparot will be held on Tuesday, September 30, from 5:00 PM

The Kaparot ritual in the Dnipro Jewish Community will be held on Tuesday, September 30, starting at 5:00 PM at 7 Yakov Samarskogo Street (entrance through the JMC parking lot).

As Rabbi Reuven Kaminezki informed our website, chickens and roosters for the ritual will be available for purchase at the ceremony location. The cost for one bird this year is expected to be 200 hryvnias.

On the eve of Yom Kippur, according to Kabbalah and the Talmud, the Almighty shows special mercy to His people; it is precisely at this time that the Kaparot ceremony is held.

For Kaparot, it is customary to use a rooster for a man and a hen for a woman. For a pregnant woman, it is customary to take three birds – two hens and one rooster.

One should never think that Kaparot actually atones for sins. The fate of this bird makes a person contemplate their behavior and repent for sins before the Almighty and before people.

More details about the essence and rules of the Kaparot ritual can be found in issue 12 of the “Dalet Amot” publication, available on our website in the “Texts” section:
