A New Torah Scroll is Being Written in Dnipro

A momentous and spiritually uplifting event took place in the Jewish Community of Dnipro – the writing of a new Torah Scroll has officially begun. This sacred scroll is a gift from the Belyaev family and is being written in merit and for the complete recovery of Levi Chaim ben Yael Ester.

The new Torah is being written at the National Sofer Center by Menachem Mendel Margolin, son of Rabbi Reuven Margolin – the Chief Sofer of Ukraine and a renowned master of the scribal art, respected far beyond the borders of the country.

Before the writing began, the community gathered for a traditional seudat mitzvah – a festive meal in honor of fulfilling a holy commandment. The ceremony was opened by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Shmuel Kaminezki, who shared touching stories about the creation of this Torah scroll and emphasized the special mission and merit of Yosef Dovid Belyaev.

Following this, the scroll writing commenced with great joy: honored guests were invited one by one to participate in inscribing the first letters of the first book of the Torah – Bereishit.

“I am truly happy that we have begun writing this Torah Scroll in our community,” said Yosef Dovid Belyaev, the project’s sponsor and a member of the Community Board of Trustees. “Our family is dedicating this gift for the merit and healing of Levi Chaim ben Yael Ester, but also as an elevation and merit for our entire Jewish community and its Board of Trustees. I sincerely thank Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki for making this possible.”
