Thanks to careful and comprehensive preparation, students from the Dnipro Jewish Community’s youth project DJCY-STL-STARS Dnipro, supported by STL, celebrated Rosh Hashanah with their families, actively participating in community events.
Before the holiday, various men’s and women’s classes were held, exploring the laws and traditions of Rosh Hashanah, its symbolism, and various spiritual aspects. Much attention was paid to the importance of consciously performing all rituals and involving family and friends, spreading the light of Yiddishkeit among people who are still far from actively participating in community life.
“The Stars students came with their families to the holiday prayers at the Golden Rose Central Synagogue to listen to the shofar together and pray for a good year for all of us,” says Khaya Maltseva, head of the DJCY-STL-STARS Dnipro project. “Participating in meals is an important part of the holiday, and the students attended one of the large community meals. They also enjoyed meals with the hospitable Segal, Feldman, and Weber families, who invited our students along with their parents and relatives, for which we are eternally grateful. Thanks to the Jewish Community of Dnipro and its Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky, all participants of the DJCY-STL-STARS Dnipro program were able to celebrate the New Year 5786 as expected, with great spiritual uplift. We hope that everyone received a good record, and that this record will be sealed with the Seal.”
