Family Reading: Jewish Literature We Listen to Together

Jews are known as the People of the Book. But what if reading could be modern and alive, engaging both kids and adults? That’s the idea behind “Family Reading” — a new format of online literary sessions where we read and discuss works by Jewish and Israeli authors together.

As the announcement says:
“This project is for the whole family — we listen, ask questions, share impressions, and explore the depths of Jewish culture, traditions, and values. It’s not just bedtime stories — it’s reflection, emotion, laughter, and heartfelt conversation.”

First session — Sunday, May 11 at 12:00 (10:00 London time)
Read by: Dina Berdnikova, actress and mindful reading specialist
We’ll begin with Sholem Aleichem’s novella Motl the Cantor’s Son — a sincere, funny, and touching story of a young boy in a Jewish shtetl. Through his eyes, we’ll witness family life, dreams, emigration, and the resilient spirit of the Jewish people, filled with humor and hope.
