Grand Celebration of Rosh Ha-Shanah in Dnipro

The Jewish Community of Dnipro celebrated the arrival of the New Year according to the Jewish calendar – the holiday of Rosh Ha-Shanah 5786 – on a grand scale. Thousands of people participated in the events, prayers, festive meals, the Tashlich ceremony, and other activities, which were held in an atmosphere of unity, spiritual uplift, and hope for a good year.

As always, the central moment was the blowing of the shofar at Dnipro’s central synagogue, the “Golden Rose,” conducted for the packed prayer hall by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the region, Shmuel Kaminezki. The holiday prayers were held with great fervor and brought together people of all ages – children and the elderly, active community members, and those who come only for the major holidays – as on this day, everyone strives to merit a favorable decree for their destiny and prays to the Almighty to grant peace, well-being, and prosperity to the entire community and the entire country.

Festive prayers for Rosh Ha-Shanah, organized by the Jewish Community of Dnipro, took place in eight minyanim (prayer quorums) across the city, making it easier for Jews living far from the center to observe the traditions of this great holiday. For the children who came to celebrate Rosh Ha-Shanah with their families, a large children’s program was organized, for which the community thanks the teaching staff of the Jewish Lyceum and other Jewish educational institutions in the city.

A significant event was the festive meals prepared by the Jewish Community of Dnipro in the “Grand Hall” of the world’s largest Jewish center, “Menorah.” These meals were organized after the evening and morning prayers. Around generously set tables with abundant treats, people gathered with their families and friends to wish each other a good New Year, raise a l’chaim for their beloved community, and express gratitude for the care and attention the community provides to every individual.
